OUR BREEDING PROGRAM
We strive to produce healthy, well-tempered dogs that not only uphold their breed standard but fulfill their original purpose!
Here at Walley Farms we focus on the preservation and breeding of the chihuahua, without a preference for the smooth or long coat varieties. We adhere closely to the breed standard and attempt to improve with every mating. The chihuahua is one of the best and most loyal companion breeds, and we believe that they can fit into almost any lifestyle you live.
We are primarily breeding for the show ring, so many of our puppies will be held back or placed into guardian homes until further evaluations. However we do, and will, have many opportunities to companion-only homes for puppies, young adults and retired dogs. It is essential to us that each dog finds it’s perfect lap to live out their life spoiled and loved!
When a dog or puppy passes from our hands to yours, that’s not the end of our relationship. Once you get a dog from Walley Farms, you become part of the family. We are with you for the life of your dog. Whether it’s for guidance, mentorship, emergencies or just general check-ins to make sure all is well, we are by your side happy to offer lifetime breeder support!
Proving Our Dogs
We believe in order to continually make good breeding choices, it’s important to have a checks-and-balances system in place.
Conformation Shows
We frequently travel to AKC conformation shows to compete against other quality dogs from top breeders. This allows judges and exhibitors to examine our dog’s structure and movement with an unbiased eye, and provide insight into the continued growth of our program and breed. We strive to put championships, or higher accolades, on all of our dogs.
Sports & Companion Events
Additionally, a large focus of our breeding program is the proving of function, stability and original purpose. We are highly involved in companion and sporting events, which help us gauge a dog’s ability to fulfill the breed’s original purpose; companionship in any and all venues. It is our strong belief that having a well-rounded, temperamentally sound and healthy dog is just as important as structural integrity and breed type.
Mentorships
Having mentorships allow us to learn from others and grow faster than we would trying to do everything on our own. There are decades of history and experience in the minds of others and if we want to better our breed communities then we need to work together to preserve that knowledge.
We listen closely to our co-breeders, friends and competitors and try to develop relationships with others that will spark opportunities for growth and accountability!
Lifestyle
While we spend a lot of time at conformation shows and sporting events, that’s only a small look into our lives. The majority of the time our chihuahuas are running around the farm…causing mischief, stealing bed covers, participating in shenanigans and being loved pet dogs. We prefer our puppies to go to active companion homes where they will be spoiled and doted on for the entirety of their lives!
Health Testing
Here at Walley Farms, all of our dogs are tested for potential genetic defects or breed specific diseases through The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) and Embark.
No expense is spared when it comes to the health, wellbeing and enrichment of our dogs lives! They are fed a well-balanced diet, given needed probiotics and supplements, regularly vetted, consistently trained and given lots of free time to play and romp about our 140+ acre property!
Since we are located in Mississippi — a heart worm hot spot — all of our dogs are given a heart worm preventative on the first of each month. We also routinely deworm our puppy and adult dogs to minimize the risk of picking up something from wildlife, dog shows or visitors on the property.
Pricing
Our companion/pet puppies are currently priced at $3,500 regardless of color, sex, weight or coat type. Each puppy will go home with limited AKC registration on a spay/neuter contract. Show or breeding homes are available to select individuals after extensive vetting, on a case by case basis.
We occasionally have young adults or retired breeding dogs looking for their forever homes! All adults will be spayed/neutered and given appropriate vetting prior to being placed in their new homes. These individuals will be priced in the $1800-$2000 range.
FAQs
-
Puppies begin leaving for their new homes at 12 weeks old. However, chihuahuas are a fragile breed so it is not uncommon for some puppies to need extra support past that initial 12 week period.
We breed primarily for ourselves, whether it be for our next show hopeful or an addition to our breeding program. Evaluations occur over the 8-12 week range and puppies will not be made available until our keeper is chosen. In the event that we are struggling to choose who to keep we may hold back one or more puppies that will become available at a later time.
-
Yes, however it is not organized on a first-come, first-serve basis. After temperament and structural evaluations, potential homes will be selected based on where/how the puppy would fit best. We reserve the right to choose which puppy is made available to applicants, and they can either accept or wait for the next offered puppy.
Since we do not breed frequently, it can be anywhere from 6 months to a year or more before the perfect puppy is offered to you. If that timeline does not work, we are more than happy to provide recommendations for other chihuahua breeders that have more availability. :)

Put simply, no. All of our puppies are priced exactly the same regardless of limited or full AKC registration.
Breeding rights are granted on a case-by-case privilege and are only available to approved show homes with a strict co-ownership contract. If you are interested in showing your puppy, please mention so in your application.
